Mayor's Housing Task Force recommends smaller, more efficient and tenant focused Toronto Community Housing

The Mayor's Task Force on Toronto Community Housing today released its final report with 29 recommendations to address ongoing social and financial pressures at the Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC). The report, called Transformative Change for TCHC: A Report from the Mayor's Task Force on Toronto Community Housing, is available on the web page at http://www.toronto.ca/tch-taskforce.

Toronto hears about road safety issues from stakeholders

Road safety stakeholders shared their knowledge and views at a roundtable meeting today on the issue of road safety in Toronto. The meeting was hosted by Councillor Jaye Robinson (Ward 25 Don Valley West), Chair of the City's Public Works and Infrastructure Committee.

City of Toronto launches website to encourage residents to donate housing, goods, services for Syrian refugees settling in Toronto

As part of the City of Toronto's Refugee Resettlement Program, WoodGreen Community Services has launched a website called H.O.M.E., short for Housing Opportunities and Marketplace Exchange. The website matches Syrian refugees with housing, goods and services from donors, both businesses and individuals, to help Syrian refugees who are settling in Toronto. Refugees, sponsors, landlords or donors can access H.O.M.E online at http://www.woodgreen.org.

Toronto Fire Services enforces Fire Code violations

A fatality occurred on December 29, 2015 as a result of a fire at 117 Birkdale Rd. The fire resulted in charges for Fire Code violations.

City issues RFP for smart traffic signals

As part of ongoing efforts to modernize its traffic signals, the City of Toronto has recently issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the provision of a new, adaptive ‘smart signal’ system. Smart traffic signals adjust in realtime to traffic volumes on the roadway, meaning that signals can allocate green time in a way that helps minimize congestion.
