Children at City of Toronto child care centres celebrate local food by planting vegetables

Children at Toronto Early Learning and Child Care Centres got their hands dirty today at seed planting events at the Metro Hall and Ancaster locations in celebration of local food. Joining the children today were Councillor James Pasternak (Ward 10 York Centre), Chair of the Community Development and Recreation Committee, Councillor Maria Augimeri (Ward 9 York Centre), Elaine Baxter-Trahair, General Manager of City of Toronto Children's Services, City staff, Toronto Home Child Care providers and representatives from Holland Marsh Growers Association.

Toronto Public Health launches TTC pop-up food markets

Toronto Public Health is launching new pop-up food markets at three Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) locations to help residents make healthier food choices during their evening rush-hour commute. Through a collaboration with the TTC and FoodShare, the markets will operate from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Downsview and Victoria Park stations, and during the same hours Wednesdays at Kipling subway station.

Toronto welcomes and celebrates new Torontonians

Mayor John Tory hosted the annual Toronto Newcomer Day festivities at City Hall today to welcome newcomers to Toronto and to celebrate their contributions. The Honourable John McCallum, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, and Senator Ratna Omidvar, Distinguished Visiting Professor, Global Diversity Exchange at Ryerson University were special guests and participants in the event. One of the many highlights of the day was a citizenship ceremony for 60 candidates who took the Oath of Citizenship in the City Hall Council Chamber.

Toronto selected to join 100 Resilient Cities

Today, the City of Toronto announced that 100 Resilient Cities – Pioneered by The Rockefeller Foundation (100RC) has selected Toronto to join the 100RC Network, a global community of cities working to build urban resilience. Through the Network, Toronto will gain access to tools, funding, resources and technical expertise that will help the city build resilience to physical, social and economic challenges that are a growing part of the 21st century.

Toronto's new paramedics and emergency medical dispatchers welcomed at graduation ceremony today

Forty new paramedics and 11 emergency medical dispatchers were welcomed to the service today at Toronto Emergency Services headquarters in North York. Mayor John Tory, Toronto Paramedic Services Honorary Chief Lieutenant-General Richard Rohmer and Toronto Paramedics Services Chief Paul Raftis presented graduation certificates and applied the Toronto Paramedic Services epaulette to the shoulders of each new employee.
