Colonel Samuel Smith Park opens new lookout to wetland

The City of Toronto officially opened a newly constructed wetland lookout today at Colonel Samuel Smith Park. At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, City staff joined project partners from The W. Garfield Weston Foundation, the Humber Arboretum, Citizens Concerned about the Future of the Etobicoke Waterfront (CCFEW), Friends of Sam Smith Park (FOSS) and community members to officially open the wetland lookout.

Toronto Fire Services zero tolerance toward Ontario Fire Code violations

Toronto Fire Services crews responded to a near fatal fire at 1169 Danforth Ave. on September 29. A serious injury was sustained by an occupant. An inspection of the building found Ontario Fire Code violations that included a non-operational fire alarm system and smoke alarms missing in some units.

City of Toronto and CUPE to commence bargaining

The City of Toronto will be entering collective bargaining this fall with CUPE Local 79 and TCEU CUPE Local 416, which represent the City's 28,500 inside and outside workers. The annual salary and benefit costs to the City for CUPE-represented employees totals approximately $1.7 billion.

The City of Toronto is moving toward a new process to resolve parking ticket disputes that will remove the parking bylaw dispute process from the provincial court system.

Novelist Emily St. John Mandel wins 2015 Toronto Book Award

Emily St. John Mandel is the winner of the 2015 Toronto Book Award for her internationally acclaimed novel Station Eleven. The announcement was made this evening at an award ceremony held at the Toronto Reference Library.
