City of Toronto receives gold designation as cycling-friendly community

The City of Toronto has been awarded the Bicycle Friendly Community Gold designation by the Ontario-based Share the Road Cycling Coalition. The designation recognizes Toronto's strong cycling culture, high level of cycling activity and efforts to support cycling in the community.

Mayor Tory, Councillor Thompson to sell Toronto globally with business mission to South by Southwest Festival

Mayor John Tory, Councillor Michael Thompson (Ward 37 Scarborough Centre), Chair of the Economic Development Committee and Co-Chair of the City's Toronto Music Advisory Council and Councillor Josh Colle (Ward 15 Eglinton-Lawrence), today kicked off a campaign to promote the benefits of doing business in Toronto by announcing plans for the City of Toronto’s participation in the South by Southwest Festival (SXSW) on March 18 and 19. The event today also included a performance by Toronto group Great Lake Swimmers.

Nominations open for Toronto Public Health Champion Awards 2015

Toronto Public Health is encouraging the public to nominate individuals and organizations for the 2015 Public Health Champion Awards. Toronto’s Board of Health established these awards in 2008 to recognize leaders in public health.

City Council approves 2015 Operating Budget and 2015-2024 Capital Budget and Plan

Toronto City Council has approved the 2015 rate and tax supported operating budget of $11.4 billion and 10-year capital budget and plan of $31.7 billion. The 2015 budgets make significant investments in key strategic priorities for the City's future, including transit, poverty reduction and public safety. The budget continues to strengthen the City's fiscal health and for the third year in a row, the budget was balanced without the use of the prior year's surplus.

City of Toronto welcomes new citizen members to Riverdale Farm Stewardship Group

The City of Toronto has appointed nine citizens for the second term of the Riverdale Farm Stewardship Group (RFSG). Established in 2013, the RFSG works closely with the local councillor, City staff and Riverdale Farm's numerous stakeholders, partners and members of the public to create partnerships that inform, educate and increase public awareness of the role farms play in our lives – now and for future generations.
