Torontonians invited to help Toronto Public Health design a new condom wrapper for condomTO 2017

September 20, 2016

Toronto Public Health is inviting members of the public to design a new condom wrapper for condomTO 2017.

Since 2014, condomTO campaigns have showcased condom wrapper designs to coincide with major events in Toronto. Last month, Toronto Public Health launched the latest condom wrapper, featuring the luminous three-dimensional Toronto sign at Nathan Phillips Square that has become an international symbol of Toronto since the 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games. The 2016 condom was designed to demonstrate civic pride. For 2017, Toronto Public Health is turning the design over to the public.

"The positive reaction we've seen to our three campaigns to date has shown us that the people of Toronto are engaged in the topic of safer sex and reducing the risk of sexually transmitted infections and unplanned pregnancies," said Dr. Barbara Yaffe, Toronto's Acting Medical Officer of Health. "The condomTO contest will help us build on that success and high level of engagement, especially among young people in our city, as they experience high rates of sexually transmitted infections."

The creative strategy and contest design were developed by The&Partnership Canada, which will also create a wrapper design for release next year. Other sponsors include ONE® Condoms, providing overall contest management and the related website, and Miami Ad School Toronto, providing design workshops to Toronto youth.

“We are excited to work with Toronto Public Health to open up the condomTO design process for the first time to the people of Toronto, while promoting good health and safer sex,” said Christopher Andrews, President of The&Partnership Canada.

More contest information on how to become "condom famous," including submission details and voting, is available at http://www.condomTO.ca. Some rules and regulations may apply.

Condoms are the most effective way to reduce the risk of sexually transmitted infections and unplanned pregnancies. Toronto Public Health has promoted and distributed condoms to community agencies and health organizations across the city as part of its sexual health promotion mandate. Condoms have been available at Toronto Public Health sexual health clinics since 1983.
