New Toronto-branded condoms now available

August 26, 2016

Toronto Public Health launched the third City-branded condom wrapper at Nathan Phillips Square today. The new condom wrappers feature the luminous three-dimensional Toronto sign at Nathan Phillips Square, a symbol of civic pride in Toronto since the 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games. The branded condoms, known as condomTO, were designed to help promote safer sex and reduce stigma around condom use.

"To date, we have launched two successful city-branded condoms that were developed in response to major events being held in Toronto – World Pride in 2014 and the Pan/Parapan Am Games in 2015," said Councillor Joe Mihevc (Ward 21 St. Paul's), Chair of the Board of Health. "Since 1983, as part of its mandate, Toronto Public Health has been promoting and distributing condoms to community agencies and health organizations across the city. I look forward to the success of this year's initiative."

"Toronto Public Health promotes healthy sexuality and condom use to prevent unplanned pregnancy and the transmission of sexually transmitted infections and blood borne infections," said Dr. Barbara Yaffe, Toronto's Acting Medical Officer of Health. "City-branded condom campaigns are an innovative way to raise awareness and reduce stigma around condom use."

The new condoms can be picked up at Toronto Public Health's sexual health clinics across the city as well as from partner agencies.

As a way of further promoting condomTO, Toronto Public Health will also be distributing branded bicycle seat covers to cyclists in downtown Toronto. In keeping with the light nature of the condomTO campaign, the waterproof seat covers display the message "Wrap it and ride."

More information about the campaign is available at condomTO.ca (http://www.condomTO.ca).
