StreetARToronto (also known as StART) has engaged 40 local artists to install a series of murals at Ravina Gardens Park this weekend to help beautify the park, celebrate Toronto's diversity and reduce graffiti vandalism.
The murals, depicting various sporting activities, will be installed August 27 and 28 on prominent walls that have been targeted several times by graffiti vandalism.
"I am delighted to see the addition of a beautiful new mural in Ravina Gardens Park, which is a community hub. This mural is just one of a number of enhancements we are making, including a new community garden and playground improvements," said Councillor Sarah Doucette (Ward 13 Parkdale-High Park). "I'm grateful to the artists and volunteers who are bringing their talents to this project. Art enriches our lives, and having a unique piece here will help make this great park even better."
Ravina Gardens, located at 290 Clendenan Ave., is a popular park space with two baseball diamonds and green space serving two nearby schools. Installation of an additional mural in the park featuring a First Nations sporting theme – lacrosse – is scheduled for next month.
StART is a program of Transportation Services' Public Realm section. It is an innovative, public-private partnership designed to develop, support, promote and increase awareness of street art and its ability to beautify the city's visual landscape.
