June 27, 2016

On Saturday, the City of Toronto held its 12th annual CIMA Mayor's Trophy cricket tournament which brings together members of the public and private sector and the city's diverse communities in a spirit of fun and excitement. This unique celebration showcases Toronto's diversity through sport and has won several awards from the International Cricket Council.

"This event celebrates cricket in Toronto and brings out the top young players in the city for a fun-filled day of competitive matches,” said Mayor Tory. “I’d like to thank everyone who came out to help support this event and help send 12 young people to represent Toronto in Trinidad for the Cricket Across the Pond match."

Joining Mayor Tory at Sunnybrook Park was MP Adam Vaughan; Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders; Michael Lam, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) Chair; Andrew Miskin, Global President of CIMA; and Mahes Wickramashinghe, Chief Strategy Officer, Canadian Tire.

The event has helped support cricket programs in more than 100 schools across the Greater Toronto Area and the CIMA Cricket Across the Pond (CAP) program, which sends 12 Toronto-area youth to an overseas tournament. This year the CAP Tour will take place in Trinidad from August 7 to 14.

The event was held in partnership with CIMA, RBC, Canadian Tire Jumpstart/Bon départ, Toronto Police Services Board, Toronto Sun, PwC, ATN, Grace Foods, George Weston Ltd., G98.7 FM, The Globe and Mail, PATTISON Onestop and Tom Mihalik of Tom’s Place.
