City of Toronto pays tribute to Rob Ford

March 22, 2016

Rob Ford, a long-time member of Toronto City Council and Toronto's Mayor from 2010 to 2014, lost a brave battle against cancer this morning.

Councillor Ford was first elected as City Councillor for Ward 2 Etobicoke North in 2000. He was re-elected Ward 2 Councillor twice before running successfully for Mayor in Toronto's 2010 municipal election. In the 2014 election, he was once again elected Councillor for Ward 2 Etobicoke North.

"On behalf of the members of Toronto City Council, I extend our deepest condolences to Rob's wife, Renata, his children Stephanie and Doug, and all members of his family," said Mayor John Tory. "His time in City Hall included moments of kindness, of generosity to his council colleagues and real efforts to do what he thought was best for Toronto. He was, above all else, a profoundly human guy whose presence in our city will be missed.”

Flags at City Hall, Metro Hall and Toronto civic centres will be lowered to half mast, and will remain lowered until the end of the day of Councillor Ford's funeral. Books of condolence will be available at Toronto City Hall and at civic centres beginning today for staff and members of the public to express their condolences. An online book of condolence will also be available at http://cityoftorontocondolences.ca.
