City of Toronto wins Greater Toronto's Top Employers award for 2016

December 8, 2015

For the second year in a row, the City of Toronto is a winner of the Greater Toronto's Top Employers competition for 2016 as announced today.

Now in its tenth year, Greater Toronto's Top Employers is an annual competition organized by the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers. Employers of choice are measured against other comparable organizations in the same field to determine which of them offers the most progressive and forward-thinking programs and creates the best work environment. This recognition also helps to attract and retain talent. The City has about 33,900 active employees.

"I am proud to lead the talented, dedicated and hard-working members of the Toronto Public Service who are the best ambassadors," said City Manager Peter Wallace. "It is important that we continuously adapt to the changing needs of the public, provide excellent customer service and make a difference."

The City's 2014-2018 Talent Blueprint is a workforce plan for public service excellence and is one of the 26 Strategic Actions that have been developed and are being implemented to advance the vision, mission and goals articulated in City Council's Strategic Plan. The 2014-2018 Talent Blueprint is available online at www.toronto.ca/talentblueprint.

As a result of these strategic directions, the City of Toronto continues to win numerous local, national and international awards for quality, innovation and efficiency in delivering public services and striving for customer service excellence.

The evaluation criteria for Greater Toronto Employers' exceptional places to work are: physical workplace; work atmosphere and social events; health, financial and family benefits; work-life balance; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.
