The City of Toronto has launched Music 311, a new initiative that brings the music of Toronto artists to the 311 phone system.
"This new way to hear music recorded by local artists is a great forum for us to continually showcase the very talent that makes us a vibrant music city," said Mayor John Tory.
Music 311 has been launched to coincide with the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games and features music from Toronto artists when 311 callers are on hold.
The inaugural tracks were contributed by musician members of the Toronto Music Advisory Council – Amanda Martinez, Jay Douglas, Miranda Mulholland and Murray Foster.
"Music 311 is great for local artists as well as our 311 hotline service,” said Councillor Michael Thompson (Ward 37 Scarborough Centre), Co-Chair of the City's Toronto Music Advisory Council. “I would like to thank the advisory council members who have contributed their songs to help launch this innovative new program."
Music 311 is now accepting submissions from Toronto-based artists interested in having their songs considered for playback. Submission guidelines and more details on the Music 311 program can be found at

311 is a simple, three-digit phone number that residents, visitors and businesses can use to get information about City of Toronto services or programs, or make a request for service. Callers can get information about everything from Toronto Public Library hours of operation and reporting a missed garbage pickup, to finding out where the closest flu clinic is located.
Toronto is Canada's largest city, the fourth largest in North America, and home to a diverse population of about 2.8 million people.
