New 3D 'TORONTO' sign provides interactive fun for residents and visitors

July 7, 2015

Toronto residents and visitors are invited to visit Nathan Phillips Square to celebrate the City of Toronto's role as Host City of the 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games – and to discover an interactive, three-dimensional, illuminated sign that spells out TORONTO.

Located by the reflecting pool with City Hall's twin towers in view, the new sign provides an iconic backdrop that is uniquely Toronto-branded for media as well as for residents and visitors, who are encouraged to share it across their social networks with friends, family and international audiences.

“The 3D TORONTO sign is a great way to showcase our city’s pride in a fun and interactive way during the Games and beyond,” said Mayor John Tory. “I encourage Torontonians and visitors to experience the various PANAMANIA activities that will take place in the square throughout the Games.”

The City is encouraging people to take their photo with the 3D TORONTO sign and join in the spirit of the Games by sharing their photo on social media using the hashtags #share3DTO and #HostCity2015. The tweets will be shown on the City's Pan Am/Parapan Am web page www.toronto.ca/panam2015.

The 3D TORONTO sign is three metres tall and 22 metres long. Each letter weighs about 136 kilograms. The sign will be illuminated with LED lights that can be transitioned to millions of colour combinations. It will remain at City Hall for the duration of the Games, providing a wonderful visual backdrop for Panamania Live, the 35-day arts and culture festival featuring free music and fireworks every day of the Games. It will remain on the square until the end of the year before moving to other iconic spaces around the city.

The 3D TORONTO sign is part of the Host City Showcase Program, which includes a variety of initiatives and projects that will leave a notable legacy and long-term community benefits to enhance the experience of the Pan Am/Parapan Am Games for residents and visitors.
