At its meeting today, Toronto City Council appointed Giuliana Carbone as Deputy City Manager, effective June 1. Toronto's newest Deputy City Manager will lead multiple social, economic and community City services including Parks, Forestry and Recreation, Children's Services, Economic Development and Culture, and Toronto Paramedic Services. The Deputy City Manager also assists the City Manager in administrative governance and ensures that City staff work to deliver effective programs and services, while achieving Council's priorities.
"I am pleased to support the appointment of Giuliana Carbone as Toronto's new Deputy City Manager," said Mayor John Tory. "Giuliana brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in municipal governance and fiscal planning that will assist the City in delivering programs and services to our residents."
Carbone is a Certified Public Accountant with over 30 years of experience in municipal government. Carbone began her public service career in 1984 as a senior manager for the former City of North York’s Public Health Department. Following amalgamation in 1998, Carbone served as the City of Toronto’s Director of Revenue Services and was responsible for consolidating, transforming and harmonizing revenue-related programs and systems from across the seven former municipal governments into a cohesive unit accountable for administering over $6 billion in annual revenues for the City. Since 2008, she has served as the City’s Treasurer, leading four City divisions in the provision of a broad range of financial and employee services supporting the City, its divisions and agencies.
Carbone joins John Livey and Roberto Rossini as one of three Deputy City Managers reporting to City Manager Peter Wallace, whose appointment to the position of City Manager was unanimously endorsed by City Council yesterday, will begin his appointment on July 13. In the interim, John Livey will be the acting City Manager following the retirement of current City Manager Joe Pennachetti on May 8.
