Today, Enterprise Toronto helped more than 200 small- and medium-sized businesses understand how cloud applications can help them grow their businesses. An event on the subject held at the North York Civic Centre offered a series of presentations, a panel discussion and breakout sessions. Cloud computing involves using the Internet to store and manage data rather than using a local server or personal computer for that purpose.
"We need to bring Toronto into the 21st century and become a future-ready city. Growing Toronto’s economy and bringing more jobs to this city rests with keeping up with evolving technology," said Mayor John Tory. "Events like these are designed to provide Toronto businesses with the tools they need to modernize the way they do business.”
"Small- and medium-sized businesses must stay technologically current if they want to be competitive," said Councillor Michael Thompson (Ward 37 Scarborough Centre), Chair of the City's Economic Development Committee. "Today’s event is one of the many tools the City provides to help Toronto businesses thrive and grow in an increasingly complex, internationally integrated marketplace.”
The event, called Taking Your Business to the Cloud: Tools for Building Your Business, was produced by Enterprise Toronto, which is part of the City's Economic Development and Culture division. Throughout the year, Enterprise Toronto provides services and events tailored to meet the needs of Toronto's entrepreneurs and small businesses, helping them to achieve their full potential so they grow, create jobs and contribute to Toronto’s prosperity.
